2 Simple Steps to Reduce Nervousness and Boost Your Social Self-Confidence

Hi Everyone!

I hope you’re having a good and recharging weekend.

Thanks for all the messages, well wishes and congratulations on The Featured Member of the Day accolade.

The topic in this Sunday afternoon's article is one that's close to my heart because it is a huge problem for some family members and many of my clients.I also have experienced it at times. let me share...

And that is that my social self-confidence used to sink as a rock and my nervousness would ramp up just before a date or an important meeting or maybe a presentation in front of an audience either on or off line.

At that point I sometimes bailed out, came up with a poor excuse and canceled.

At other times I simply plowed through the meeting or date while being not quite my best self, certainly not being fully present any way.

After some time I had simply had enough of that. So I started looking for ways to handle and reduce this challenge.

Today I’d like to share two of my favorite steps for doing just that. This is the same stuff I share with clients and loved ones.

Step 1: Slow down and breathe with your belly.

A few minutes before you step into the meeting that makes you nervous slow down. Walk slower to the meeting place. Move slower.

Even stop for a minute if you like and stand still.

Then breathe through your nose. Take a little deeper breaths than you usually do.

Make sure you breathe with your belly. Not with your chest (a common problem when people get stressed or nervous).

Focus on just your slow in- and out-breaths for a minute or two. Only on the air going in and out of your nose.

This will calm you down, make it easier to think normally again and that singular focus will draw you back into this moment again rather than past failures or future worries.

It's always taller than it looks.
And it's always harder than it looks."
Bonus: Take 2 breathes for every step

Step 2: Claim rapport.

After you've slowed down and focused on your breathing and just before you met someone, pretend and think to yourself that you're simply meeting one of your best friends.

Then you’ll naturally slip into a much more relaxed, comfortable, confident and enjoyable emotional state and frame of mind.

In this state of mind the conversation tends to flow more naturally too, without much thinking.

Just like when you're with your friends.

Like the Air You Breathe,
ABUNDANCE in all things Is
Available to you. Your life will
simply be as good as you
allow it to be.

It may take a bit of practice to get the hang of this one yet it’s well worth it. Because this is certainly one of the very best and most helpful social habits I've ever learned.

Take care and have a wonderful Sunday and week ahead!
