The Power of Ignoring People

I was thinking about the little flashing light on the upper corner of my  cell phone. You know, the one that blinks whenever you get a text, an email, a WhatsApp, a message, a Snap, an alert. Or just any time anyone on the planet THINKS about you.

Blink. Blink. Blink.

It’s hard to focus on anything when your phone is always beeping at you. Ringing and chiming and binging and bonging. Not to mention everything on the computer is flashing for your attention.

Chat, Skype, email, Slack. Pay attention to me!

If you want to get anything done, you need some peace. That’s why I keep my phone more or less permanently on silent. I don’t want to know every time you see something funny or any time you eat food.

“Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.”

-- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Though just in case someone DOES decide to silence their phone, they added this handy dandy light. That way, even when I have my phone silenced so I don’t get distracted, it can scream silently at me to check it.

Blink. Blink. BLINK. BLINK!

Now if I need to concentrate, my phone goes on silent AND face down.

Do you find yourself distracted non-stop? Always chasing down an alert, checking a message, looking at something that popped up?

Try the “mute” button. Close that chat app. Put your phone face down, even for a half hour. You might be amazed what you can get done.

To Your Success,

The Power of Ignoring People
