"The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny."
Albert Ellis 1913-2007, Psychologist
I read this morning, and thought this is so true. It is not what happens to you in life that counts it's what you do with it that is important. Lots of people have very bad things or situations happen to them in life, either in the way they were brought up or by a life altering event, and they dont become a bad person. You hear stories all the time or watch a movie about someone's life story were the subject has lifted themselves up from their adversity to become a positive and substantial contributor to life and society.
I have seen over the years many many people that do not take ownership of the situations that have shaped their personalities. They become beaten or downtrotten, some even become bad and evil people simply becuase they are re-acting to what they conceive and believe is what has made them that way. If they would take owenership and decide to not let their adversities own them they would and could become better stronger more driven people because of it. When I was injured in an industrial accident at age 29 that left me a paraplegic, I seen this scenario play out both ways. Not to pat myself on the back, but when I was hurt I had a wife and 4 young children. The youngest of which was just learning to walk. I used to joke that my baby was learning to walk while I was learning not to. As I was going through recovery and rehab I got to know lots of people who in the same situation have the drive to carry on and those that had given up on themselves and life.
Its been 15 years now and I have raised my four kids and even took in 3 cousins and raised them as my own. I have pulled my family out from a life of poverty (not all insurance programs are equal) to a life of middle class existance, and I am no where near done, through network marketing I am going to bring my family to a level of exceptional living. And in that same time frame I have seen many of the people from the same rehab centre drink and drug themselves to death literally. Even a couple of the ones that I thought would overcome and persever have given up over time. You can see the quit in their eyes.
I can only hope and pray that more and more people will step up and take ownership of what life throws at them, and grow stronger from it rather than let it beat them down.
May you all find the strength to rise above.
Have an amazing day!

| | | | | Nice to meet another who didn't give up. It has been 20 years for me in a wheelchair, nine with no memory of the past. My business is about helping others see that no matter what they can succeed, as long as they don't give up. |
