A Check Up From The Neck Up

How many of us go through a daily checkoff list before we leave the runway and go soaring into cyberspace? Do we perform our "start up" procedure as a pilot does, or are we hapazardly hoping for the best? Are we running a real business or is this some kind hobby or free time recess that we frivilously waste, wishing that we would rather win the lottery instead? I wonder how many of us have an inkling of an idea on how to not only plan, but to carry out the tasks of running their Star Ship Enterprize the way that Cpt.Kirk did so efficiently? Management of the business we profess to be successful in without managing our time properly leads to an entrpreneurial accident waiting to happen. Whatever you do, don't allow others coming in under you to fall into the same nonproductive trap. It is our reponsibility as leaders to hold our people up and help them to the top before ourselves. It is that "Law of Reciprocity" I wrote about some three weeks ago, the Law of Giving and Receiving. Keep it positive. Always sandwhich a suggestion in between two positive affirmations of how well the person is doing. People respond to positive much easier than negative. Don't be brutally honest. I was once that way and have learned to use the sandwhich technique when trying to give constructive critism. Respect plays a major role in this relationship. We are on equal ground. Just because I may know something that someone else doesn't, doesn't make me any smarter. I truly believe as marketers, if we are here long enough, we all go through the same things, just at different times. Be patient and allow growth in your organization to blossom slowly. It is much easier to manage that way. So always, whether we are the instructor or the student, for we are both throughout each day as long as we give ourselves a Check Up From the Neck Up.
