What is wrong with youngsters?

Since the past few years I have noticed a strange trend in the youngsters of today. Their growing aggression and attitude towards any situation. I observed this after studying their behavioural patterns for a while. Stand outside any school after it has given over and you will see for yourself. The way they talk, walk on the road, the look in their eyes, all can be terrifying for the meek and gentle. We also see them tearing down on roads in fancy bikes disregarding traffic rules or concern for other road users. So what brings this on in our youngsters? Once we too were young and rebellious, but nothing compares to what it is today. In addition to raging hormones they also have violent tendencies which surfaces regularly and we hear of numerous cases of violence in schools worldwide, either directed towards their teachers or fellow students. Being part of a gang is the ‘In thing’ What causes these regular displays of violence amongst youngsters who are being groomed to become future responsible citizens of their respected countries? Who is to be held responsible? Is it Parents, teachers, the education system, social inequality? However in my opinion no single segment can be blamed, all are to blame in one way or the other. Information overload is the chief culprit. Information is categorized as suitable and unsuitable depending on the age factor. Today easy access to information of both types is easily available for the youngster, sometimes this can be dangerous for fragile and immature minds, which results in them being exposed to drugs, alcoholism, violence, sex etc. Movies are another segment which has a very strong influence on the mind of youngsters. Movies depicting violence and sex act as stimulants to the already overloaded and confused mind and just a spark is needed for it to explode. So how do we control this growing trend amongst youngsters? Everyone has to put up their hand and lend their support. All of us have a youngster known to us either directly or indirectly. Teachers, parents, community groups all have to work hand in hand to resolve in this issue, concerned citizens should join in too. Schools have to take a serious view of this as the youngsters spend a substantial time there where they go to learn and create the foundation for their future. They should establish a system where each student is psychologically profiled, they may need to employ specialized staff capable of assessing students and monitoring every moment and action of theirs. Regular student counseling is a must. Parents have to be briefed on a regular basis and their co-operation is mandatory as they have to continue the school role during the time the students spend time at home. Non-compliance of rules, regulations and strictures by the school authorities should be taken seriously and both parents and students should be taken to task. Punishment meted out to the student and a substantial fine imposed on the parent. Government support should be requested in every aspect as students corrected and disciplined at this age level will benefit society and be less cumbersome for the law authorities who are controlled by the government. Therefore this justifies government support and participation. The Film Industry should be requested to produce responsible films which emphasizes on a ‘Message’ to aid society. Any type of violence shown should also be supported by a message indicating a bad end to any form of violence. We as a society have a serious responsibility towards ensuring that our youngsters are properly groomed to take over from us. If we procrastinate and refrain from doing so then the youngster without proper guidance can become a menace to society.
