A producer of hip-hop is primarily a creator. He is the father of instrumental beats on which the rappers sing. These are known and admired, but producers are actually the roots, soul and heart pieces of hip hop that you listen. Although there are many musical styles and if producers often work differently, they have some commonalities that we will explain in this article.

Love what you do. The world of music is quite tight. If you want to become a producer of hip-hop, you should do it because you love this music and not thinking you'll make lots of money quickly. Start by listening as much of hip-hop as you can in order to properly recognize the different styles and find the one that suits you best. You will have more knowledge in the hip-hop culture, the more you will have aces.

With the huge amount of music available on the internet on sites like Livemixtapes, Datpiff or HotNewHipHop that put mixtapes available, it is nowadays relatively easy to become a producer of hip-hop.

Listen to different styles. In general, hip-hop producers are exploring the possible musical styles in order to draw influences and sounds and then create a music style all their own. For example, Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons brought rock & roll in rap music, RZA has influenced old soul albums while Kanye incorporates symphony orchestras tracks in many pieces of it. As producer of hip-hop, you have no limitation in terms of musical influences.

Do not listen to music based on his reputation or his style. As a producer, the most important point in your choices is quality.

When you listen to something of quality that you like, note the name of the performer and composer and if you can, keep it to MP3 so you can listen later and eventually use it in one of your productions.

Learn music. The job of a hip-hop producer is to create a beat mixing several different instruments and sounds. To get good results, you must have a good knowledge of music history and learn as theoretical elements that are a signature, a bar line, a note, how are formed harmonies and know their progressions. This will make it much easier to work with multitrack DAW software (computer music). You can start by learning to read music and improve your knowledge in harmony and music theory.

To produce hip-hop, it is recommended to learn to play the piano as a keyboard will allow you to program or play your beats. If you wish, you can learn another instrument.

Obtain the necessary equipment. To produce hip-hop, you must be in possession of a good computer. There are many free MAO software that are available on internet, for example Audacity for PC (Windows or Linux) and Mac. You then have the option to connect peripheral devices to your computer for more creative possibilities. Some accessories are particularly useful.

Keyboard: keyboard should be the first item that you will connect to your computer with a USB cable. The keyboard will allow you to physically play the beats that you invent and it will also give you the opportunity to play melodies and gimmicks (short repetitive musical phrases and easy to remember). It is much easier to use a keyboard to record that manually entering datas in a MAO program.

A drum machine: with a drum machine, you can assign certain sounds to pads to play them with your fingers to dynamically register. You will be able to play the bass drum, claps, snares, hi-hat, cymbals and many other sounds.

A microphone: a microphone will give you the ability to record acoustic instruments to customize your creations and you can also record voices, which is essential to work with a singer or a singer.

A MIDI controller: a MIDI controller can sometimes be quite complex to use, but it lets you manage multiple real-time tracks, loops (loops), changes of tone, volume, effects, and drum sounds. It is usually possible to synchronize a controller keyboard or a drum machine.

The speakers: Although you can work with a headset of good quality (what your neighbors and your girlfriend will appreciate much to 3am), a pair of speakers allow you to obtain a more neutral tone to make your mixes and everyone in the room can hear the song, which is often necessary when you bring in musicians or singers or singers.

It is recommended that newbies start out with an affordable make beats software like Sonic Producer V2.0
