You should be clever when selecting a name, but make sure that you choose a name that will clue people in to what your site offers.
Find a company that has reliable web hosting. Do not select a company based on price alone, since that can lead to a ton of disappointment. Judge a company based on several factors, with price being at the bottom of that list. You do not want to deal with a site that has bandwidth limits, lots of downtime or poor customer service
Make sure that all of the content on your site is of great quality and relevant to what you are trying to sell. You do not want people to be overloaded with information, but you want to make sure that they have more than enough information to help them make a decision to purchase. Check any links you put on your page to make sure they are working properly this is a key point, people don't want to search for you they just want to click directly to your information or product. Also make sure that you do not have a site that takes to long to load. The only way a website can survive is if it caters to their particular customer base above all else.
Everyone likes to have more than one payment option available to them when they are shopping online. The more payment options you have, the more likely visitors will be to buy something from your site. Many people are not secure with submitting payment info to sites that are not well-known to them. Sign up with a payment processor like Paypal so that these customers will have a way to pay that makes them feel at ease.
Make sure to get all of the exposure possible. This means doing things like opening up social networking accounts, paying for email blasts and running contests. You want to do everything you can to make yourself known to the public. If you are not good at marketing yourself, there are plenty of webinars online that can help get you started.
Starting a home business will be much easier for you if you apply the advice given above and take the time to set things up properly before you begin.
