Christine Hingston - Definitely An Artist To Watch !
Christine Hingston ( Chrissy to those that know her ) is rapidly making a name for herself in Western Australia.
A talented artist who graduated from Claremont Art College in Perth, Western Australia, having worked and lived in London, she travelled throughout Europe, before finally returning home .
Now married to my brother Tim, they both moved to the remote Western Australian Goldfields, prospecting for gold - a tough living for a young couple in the outback, but this certainly gave her the inspiration for much of her work.
Back in Perth in 1985, she began hand painting t-shirts and set up her clothing company -'Chrissy Resort and Sportswear', which ran successfully for 14 years.
Always the entrepreneur, Chrissy then moved on to designing, manufacturing and hand printing children’s clothing label, 'Ochre Design Australia', and set up her screen printing company.
In 1998, after moving to Mundaring in the Perth Hills , Chrissy and Tim bought a run- down 100 year old house with a shed on the property, large enough for a studio,and began painting full time.
After renovating the house and establishing a garden , this has now been open as part of the Australian Open Garden Scheme.
Her first solo exhibition - "A Room Of My Own", at the Mundaring Art Centre in 1999, was a great success , and since then she has featured and held solo exhibitions every year.
In 2009 the couple built a contemporary corrugated iron building in the garden - the Red Shed Studio , where clients now visit regularly.
Her paintings are included in collections in London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Moscow and Los Angeles and throughout Australia.
From difficult times, Christine has overcome many challenges, and deserves the recognition she has achieved - we are all extremely proud of her !
As for Tim - very proud of him too ! He is an established photographer in Perth, doing what he loves best.
