How To Back Up WordPress And Safeguard Against Hackers !
Failing to back up WordPress -
With WordPress becoming the software of choice for website creation nowadays, it’s easy to make the common mistake of failing to back up your WordPress sites.
Just imagine – your website could be hacked at any time, leaving months – if not years of content vunerable to being lost forever.
This is a recent post from James Francis, a highly respected and successful online marketer, who experienced this , and here's what he had to say -
" A loyal subscriber of mine had tried to contact me, and my worst nightmade had come true.
My blog had been hacked.
All my content was deleted, my comments had been removed and my website was back to square one. All that remained was a blank page with the hacker’s name on it.
Luckily, I had a great piece of WordPress backup software installed, which meant I could restore all my content, comments and everything else with just a few clicks – like nothing had ever happened.
Sure, I could’ve saved a few bucks and manually transferred all my website files, databases and just about everything else to my computer’s hard drive - but what if I missed something?
And more importantly, it would take a while to do – especially with my already-established website!
Could you imagine what would have happened if I hadn't bothered to back up WordPress ?
I would have lost years of hard work, and would have had to start from scratch.
So - here are a few ways to keep everything secure…
1) Don’t Use Basic Passwords
One of the main reasons that accounts are hacked is due to having simple passwords that are easy to guess.
Examples are words like “test”, “password” or your own name.
Instead, use a free password generator service - you can Google this
2) Keep WordPress Updated
When WordPress release a new update, they do this to eliminate bugs and vulnerabilities within the software
Regularly updating will block off all the hidden entrances to your blog which you probably didn't know existed - this will keep your website a lot more secure.
3) Keep Everything Backed Up
Take steps to back up your WordPress site (manually or via some simple software) to ensure you’ll be able to recover everything whenever needed.
This isn’t only to safeguard against hacking attempts.
What if your website goes offline, or your hosting company goes out of business ?
You might hit the wrong button and delete some important content by accident
Can you imagine that sinking feeling in your gut if that happened?
I know - I felt it when it first happened to me , so don’t take the risk.
Be sure to back up your WordPress blog today."
I took James' advice, and although I struggle with any technology, this was very easy
to install , and has given me peace of mind.
