“What is the best way to capture potential or future customers that visit your website or purchase your eBook?”
The best way to capture anybody who visits your website or purchases your eBook is with an autoresponder. Let’s talk about the differences in using these because you don’t do them the same way for each circumstance.
“Buyer” Autoresponder
As far as someone who buys your eBook, that one’s pretty easy, actually. All you do when somebody comes through and buys from your website is to first send them through your payment processor. Once they’ve gone through your payment processor they’re going to come back to a page on your website where you simply have them “confirm” their purchase by entering their name and e-mail into an opt-in form and then clicking a button.
At that point they go to another page on your website (confirmation page) where they actually download their ebook purchase. Also, they go into your database where you have their e-mail address and can follow up with them. This “follow up” means you can send them automatic e-mail follow-up messages and broadcast emails whenever you have something valuable to share with them.
“Prospect” Autoresponder
When someone just visits your site and doesn’t buy, that’s a little bit different story. You want to do a couple of things in order to capture people and start building your list.
No. 1, you want to make a compelling, “juicy” offer on your website. Normally, making the offer in the upper right corner of your site works best to get results. Basically that offer can be for some type of freebie, whether it’s a free audio, ebook, or free report.
Whatever the “bribe” is, it’s something that they really want – something they’re interested in – that will cause them to put in their name and e-mail and subscribe. They go into your database and it sends them an e-mail with their freebie. Then you can follow up with e-mail.
Another thing you can do besides having it in the upper right is use what’s called an “exit page” or an exit script. All you have to do is just do a search on Google for the term “exit script”.

You’ve no doubt seen these little warning boxes that come up that say “Hey, click cancel and we’ll give you something for free.” Behind that warning box it loads a page that makes a compelling freebie offer.
This type of thing actually works really well. Some of you might say hey, that’s annoying. My answer to that is “I don’t care if it’s annoying to you. It’s a way to actually build the list!”
Using an exit script combined with a form in the upper right of your page are the two best ways to build a list of people that do not buy.
So, if you’re serious about building a list, make sure you build both a list of people who DO buy from you and a list of people who haven’t bought from you yet.
