Many business owners that I talk with ask me what is this "Social Media" thing all about and why do they need to do that Twitter thing, Facebook, Youtube, etc.
The first thing I tell them is that they need to understand just what Social Media is, and how it is used by the masses.
Social Media as we know it today, is not just being online trading ideas, ventures, etc...
Social Media is a huge Advertising method, that is part of a company's Marketing Process. Basically, Social Media is a "conversation - a two way form of communication utilizing the power of the internet.
Socail Media is absolutely "Content Driven"
Keep in mind the difference between "Marketing versus Advertising".
Advertising is a personal or non personal message or announcement by a business or entity to get it's brand or message out to the masses.
Marketing, on the other hand, is detailed planning and implementation of a group of activities geared towards simply building a relationship between potential buyers and a company.
So, what are the real advantages of using Social Media in a Marketing Plan:
1) Social Media helps a business use the internet to reach and interact with current and potential customers;
2) Social Media, mainly Facebook, utilizes a base of over 600,000,000 users to help a business be found, as well as placed in from\nt of "targeted users";
3) Social Media provides a place for customers and prospects to "check up" on a business before actually visiting.
4) Social Media helps a business grow it's Brand and Identity
5) Social Media helps a business build "reliable leads" and prospects that are already opted in by becoming a "fan" or "Liking" a Facebook page for example.
This is only a quick list of the advantages of using Social Media.
