Best Keyword Strategy

In a world where content is king the keyword is definitely an important part of the royal court. Why are these words so important? Internet search engines use them. In fact, just about everything that you do online, from doing the searching for a site to operating the site that is being searched for, incorporates these very important words. Content is carefully developed around these words for business websites. The reason why people spend hours carefully crafting the verbiage of their websites to incorporate these very important words is that if the wrong words are chosen then chances are the website will not be found. On the other hand, if the right words are chosen then targeted traffic will be driven to the website for free.

There are three different types of keywords. There is the generic, the broad match, and the long-tailed. Each of these has a place in the realm of SEO. The following paragraphs give an outline of these types of terms and their best usage.

The generic is just as the title suggests. It is a common term that represents broad groups. Examples of this would be the word laptop or the word fruit. These terms are very competitive in searches. In fact, it is highly suggested in numerous places that you do not solely use this type when characterizing your website or blog. Usually larger companies like Dell for laptop or Edible Arrangement for fruit can rank high in the search engines for generic terms. Smaller companies, however would not usually fare so well when using the same terms. There are times, however, that you would want to use the generic type if you are not a Dell or an Edible Arrangements. This will be discussed later on in this article.

The broad match is said to be the core of SEO. Examples of these terms would be HP Spectre laptop for computer and summer melon for fruit. This type of term will present more of an opportunity to be found by the search engines than generic terms. The level of competition will be lower therefore you will receive more traffic.

The long-tailed is more targeted. It is a phrase or a sentence. An example of this type of term for laptop would be "how to choose the best HP Spectre laptop" and for fruit would be "what is the best summer fruit for a salad?" This option might not get you the most traffic but it does have its place. For instance, if you are good at guessing what phrases or sentences people in your niche will search for you should be able to use this method to generate some visits to your blog.

So, you might deduct, after reading the above paragraphs that the best key word strategy would be to only use broad match terms. After all, those are the terms that would give a greater chance of getting the most traffic. Keep in mind, though, that if you only use this type of term then you would not be covering all of your bases. Therefore, the best keyword strategy would be to use highly relevant terms of this type for the major portion of your list along with sprinkles of highly relevant generic and long-tailed terms.
