There was once a man that grew up in a very abusive home. Day in and Day out he would hear phrases from his father that brought him down and made him feel worthless. No matter what he did he always felt he was the source of his parents problem. He questioned his identity and he questioned his life. One day he found himself broken and even more abused from not only his father's words, but his own words. He started to tell his own self that he was no good, that he couldn't succeed and that he couldn't be anything that would be of any worth to those that he loved. This went on for years and years and this problem of low self-worth turned himself into an overweight, depressed, unsuccessful gentlemen. What was going through his mind at the point of being this way. "No one loves me; No one cares for me; I can't do it anymore; how do I succeed if I never had the one person in my life that I wanted to feel loved by the most, my father, to teach me how to be successful." You see, this child at a young age of 13 made a decision to follow what he was taught by others as a leader. He chose to try and make something more of himself through a gentlemen that we know as Jesus. So even though many of these questions went through the mind of this individual growing up, the only thing that kept him going was the love that Christ had for him that was shown so dearly through his mother. His mother......his mother. Thirteen years later, after being kicked out of Bible School twice and losing numerous jobs, married and divorced only after six weeks of marriage, being overweight and having low self worth, this gentlemen had someone amazing come into his life. His name was Rich. Rich was a Godly man, a God fear man. Rich was sixty-one years old when he first met this twenty-one year old at the church's celebrate recovery program. Rich, over five years decided to make a commitment to mentor this young man in his hardest of times. There were times when these two were close and then life happened and they didn't speak as much, but somehow, they stayed in touch. Today, these two, a twenty-six year old and a sixty-six year old are now two great friends that see each other four to five times a week. What's happened in this young man's life since he met Rich? He's been loved by a man that has now taken on a huge part in his life. Because of this love, he has had the ability to forgive his father for the words that so broke his heart. He's come to accept the failed marriage that he had and the low-self worth has progressively gone away. This day he is now great friends with his father, growing into a very healthy loving relationship. Oh and for his mother, who is probably the most important aspect to all of this, is of course, his HERO. His mother is his HERO. And even though Rich had a huge part in his recovery, His mother is his best friend. His mother....his mother. Why do I tell you all this? Because, this man is me.
