Before you access your account in every site, it is always required to enter your username (or email address sometimes) and password. A password is like a bank’s ATM PIN on where you’re the only one that knows about it. In other words, it must be kept a secret. This is needed so that the hackers wouldn’t enter your account and steal everything you have online. If they succeed, there’s nothing you can do about it but there are ways to avoid them.
1. Don‘t give your password to anyone. This is very important and everyone must remember this. As I’ve said earlier, a password is a secret and not to be shared to anyone even though you know them. Just because you’re comfortable with that person, it doesn’t mean you have to give everything. A hacker applies to every person. It could be me, you, and every one around us.
2. Make sure your password is hard to remember. Hackers likes password that is very easy to remember. For them, the more easier the better. Never ever use your name, anyone’s name, special dates like birthdays, anniversaries, etc., and even your favorites as your password. If you do that, you’re most likely to welcome to enter your account.
3. Password should be a combination of letters, numbers, and/or symbols. Prior to number two, try to combine everything instead of just only letters, numbers, and/or symbols. In that way, they would have a hard time to access your account.
I actually use LastPass to generate my password. It helps me create new passwords and remembering them. I’ve been using it for years and they’re really good.
4. Change your password often. My suggestion is to change your password once every month. Why? If the hackers figured out your passwords, obviously they would use that. But if you change them very often, they would be confused and think what is your new password. In case they’ve figured out, change it immediately.
And last but not the least,
5. Keep your password in a safe place. As I’ve said earlier, that hackers can be anyone you know. Put them in a place where you’re the only one that knows about it and make sure that they wouldn’t find out.

| | | | | I'm in Information Security and agree with all that you've said. Be careful of "social engineers" (essentially, professional liars), Phishing (email fraud), Vishing (phone fraud), and any other time that people are asking for your credentials. Hackers attack the weakest link and that is most often the human instead of the computer to get the information that they need to break into your computer. |

Nice blog post.
Thanks for sharing this! |
