Confession: I delight myself in the Lord, and He gives me the desires of my heart.
"Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart." ~Psalm 37:4 NKJV
If we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart. In the original Hebrew, delight means to be soft, flexible, and pliable. Clay is soft, flexible, and pliable. Isaiah 64:8 says "Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." When we keep our role as the clay and allow God to mold us into what He wants us to be, we delight in Him.
God wants us to love Him and trust Him enough that we are delighted about what He tells us to do. As a reward for our trust in Him, He can now trust us in granting our every desire. We can relate to this as parents. It is not strange at all for us to try to give our children their every desire when they consistently obey and trust our judgment even when they disagree with our rules. It is the same with our Father, God.
God appreciates our humility, as it demonstrates our delight in Him and is evidence that we long to do whatever His Word commands us to do. Proverbs 22:4 tells us, "By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life." We must be sure not to misconstrue what this means. It doesn't mean that we can pretend to be delighted with God so we can obtain our desires. God knows our motives.
Are you truly delighted in the Lord? As you continue to delight yourself in Him, you can expect to receive your heart's every desire.
Are there some requirements you wish God didn't have? What are they? Now, because you know He know best, see yourself delighting in God's commands.
