Business Sense & Building Up Team Members for a Sustainable Success: Part II by Advancing With Us

I started this discussion by highlighting why it is important to keep you and your team members interested, driven and financially satisfied.  During the course of that a question arose as to how to (1) find people for our teams who are naturally resonate with the team charter and (2) provide for a business culture that will promote sustainable interest, drive, and financial success for everyone involved.  So, I thought I'd begin to discuss some of that today.
 

The simple way to answer this question is to tell you that the business mission (that which we spoke about in Part I) has to be used to organize the business itself.  Now, different people have different ideas of what organizing a business means, so I'll clarify where I'm coming from.  Once we've defined the purpose for our business, making sure that it is something that we're naturally resonate, we have to ask ourselves some questions, such as: 



  1. How can I make sure that what my business is doing is what I mean when I say . . . (whatever your mission statement is)?  It's not enough to say, "Hi, everyone. This is my company and why I'm here."  You have to prove it to others before they'll trust your claim.  This means building a reputation for yourself that says what your business intends to be.

  2. How do I find people that will complete that process?  It's not enough that you, the owner, are invested and have a good reputation for being what you intend your business to be, your team members must also do and be the same.  Afterall, without them what your business will be doing will be quite different than what you advertise its purpose.

  3. How do I protect or build that process (maintenance) once its established to secure the heart of the business?  If you ask someone who's been in business for awhile they'll tell you that all business strategies and plans require monitoring and maintenance.  If you aren't planning in a way that's measurable and properly maintenanced, you aren't operating in a sustainable manner.


If you get nothing else from the above points made, remember this: The people in your organization are a huge part of seeing your mission through to manifest reality.  If they don't provide the care and aren't operating in a system that supports their work, your customers will notice and your business will suffer for it too.  Therefore, finding qualified people is a must.  Somethings that I've found help include: 




  1. Ask the questions that measure interest and drive on your applications and in your job interviews.  Make sure you're talking to someone (1) qualified and (2) interested enough to apply that experience to build up themselves and your organization.  People in management who fail to do this often find that new enrollees lose interest quickly, don't apply themselves to the business model/tasks, and/or drop out of the program altogether.

  2. Publicly and enthusiastically express your principles and processes, even when not hired or serving others.  This shows that your anticipation, joy, energy, and appreciation for your clients is not just tied to their joining your team, buying your products, buying your service, or otherwise paying you for something.  Then, when these people respond to one of your ads for a job opening they will be doing so with a sense of what the work environment is like before they even fill out the application.


But, finding the right people isn't the only component to the above underlined principle.  Providing them a system that supports their person and work is equally important.  Consider this:  John Doe joins your team with a love for your product and serving others, but after he joins your team realizes that he is hindered in every way when it comes to his expressing his passion and love for the product and others.  Do you think John Doe will be as productive as if he were invested in a process that included his person?  Of course not.


 

For any organization its structure can make or break itself and its team members.  That is why my team and I take such care to protect ourselves and each other by making sure our mission is to see everyone (in our team today and in our team tomorrow) securely present, contributing, and successful.  Contact me and learn more about what it means to be Advancing With Us.
