Using Free Offers To Build Your Mailing List

We have all hear about, read about or even been confronted with some of the fantastic ‘free’ offers on the internet. You know the type where your offered an all expense paid trip to Hawaii – all you have to do is click on the banner. Then you get caught up in an endless stream of offers and enticing prompts to take the next step. In the end you leave the site because you realize you seldom get anything for free and this method requires promoting their products or an eventual purchase from somebody – and then the endless torrent of emails begin to flood your inbox.

This approach has had critical impact on the mailing list business. Unscrublous Internet entrepreneurs have found literally thousands of unwary subscribers through the use of this tactic.

We don't want a free lunch that comes with a hefty price tag. But there is a legitimate way for the average internet business to use free gifts to build their mailing lists. 

For example, if you have an online coffee shop you could provide a form on your website for your customers to fill out to receive a free sample of one of your gourmet coffees. In this case they provide their name, phone number, address and email.

If you assure them that there is no cost or obligation you will likely receive many requests for your free product sample and you will have added names to your list in a way that can be considerably more cost effective than many other ways.

If you can provide persuasive information in the form of a report or ebook, you can make it available on your website and by sending a postcard or brochure to a targeted mailing list. Many will sign up for the information, and help you in building your list.

The same procedure can be applied to downloads of specific site only information, software, videos and audio products. Each of these signups can assist you in growing your list for additional marketing efforts.

Even though some consumers have been turned off by so called free gift offers there are still many who are willing to see if there really are freebies to be had. When you can convince them that there really is something worthwhile available to them for giving you their contact information, you can foster a level of trust that has them coming back to you time after time.
