Earth Day 2016

Today is Earth Day, 2016.

Every month so far has broken temperature records. Every Earth Day feels a little more compelling than the last.

In the latest post to my website, I talk about a few things we can all do for our ailing planet. But really, there are as many things we can do as there are people.

My hope is that the environmental crisis that we are in the midst of will bring us around to our innate common sense.

Why is it that we can somehow justify stealing a future from our children and grandchildren? Whatever makes that acceptable must be questioned. Survival should be a no-brainer, and anything that helps us to think differently is mistaken.

We have the opportunity to make this world into the most wonderful place imaginable if we can get beyond our greed, distrust and violence. The alternative is unthinkable, yet that's where we're headed.

This is an Earth Day to make a commitment to ourselves to recycle more, or join a community group, or plant a garden. There are so many things we can do, and they're all effective. But the most effective things we can do are the ones we do with others.

Climate change is the biggest challenge -- and the biggest opportunity -- our species has ever been faced with. It's up to us to rise to this challenge together. We have the technology, we have the capacity, but we don't have the political will. When we raise our voices together we can change that.
