Is Procrastination Stopping You From Becoming Successful?

“Success is not obtained overnight. It comes in installments; you get a little bit today, a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate, you lose that day’s success.”   ? Israelmore Ayivor

Let’s face it, we all suffer through procrastination at some time in our life. If it doesn’t happen today, it might happen tomorrow. Sometimes it is the mundane things but sometimes it could be the bigger things that require more time and more commitment.

Like most people we come up with all sorts of creative reasons why now, today, just isn’t the right time. Too busy. Too broke. Too stressed. Too old. Too young. Some reasons could be valid. But often, they are simply excuses for doing the real work and experiencing the emotional discomfort in making what could be meaningful changes in our work and lives.  For many people, procrastination is a strong and mysterious force that keeps them from completing the most urgent and important tasks in their lives.

Most psychologists see procrastination as a kind of avoidance behavior, a coping mechanism. It usually happens when people fear or dread, or have anxiety about, the important task awaiting them. To get rid of this negative feeling, people procrastinate.

Our subconscious mind, when it doesn’t recognize success as a known, it will often present in the form of Fear of Success. You start trying to do something that could make you successful and it your own mind starts freaking out, “Wait, you’ve never been successful at this kind of thing.  You can’t make $5000 per week. You’ve never made more than $2500 a month. How are you going to make that kind of money?” The mind, when it doesn’t recognize our actions and thoughts as knowns, it will start to sabotage your success. It will do things to keep you from doing what it does not know. It will make you procrastinate.

Stop letting your mindset of fear of success take over your life.  Once you change your mindset and just do it, procrastination will be a thing of the past. I challenge myself as well as each of you to make yourself accountable and not let procrastination stop you from growing and becoming successful.
