Battle in the Clouds ... cloudcomputing, processmodeling, processimprovement, processmanagement

In cloud computing nirvana, a user should be able to throw down a credit card and have computing services, whether Linux or Windows based, in minutes. I was setting out to test this theory with the most mature CSP available. Fortunately, Amazon does have some solid documentation to allow semi-tech savvy individuals to hit the ground running. Unfortunately, I found the article to be clearly written for 'Nix people and not for Windows. A nice example of the desired client platform is its inability to handle more Windows-oriented paths, like "c:\documents & settings\Lewis Hamilton\My Documents\EC2" (even when using 8.3). After having a load of path related issues, I moved everything to C:\EC2 and viola, it began working. There are definitely some creative components within the EC2 architecture including the Mechanical Turk and "elastic IPs."Address Once you get beyond the boring stuff like generating keypairs and setting up your account, you can then fire away on finding an instance type to fire up (for me, a standard Windows 2003 with no SQL).
