Genetic Simulation Platform – $10,000 Award
One of our clients is looking for a Group that can create a genetic simulation program (the product) that will work for any diploid plant species to simulate a variety of genetic and breeding population types, including the flexibility to address novel population types. In addition, the program will simulate natural evolution and artificial selection processes. The primary use of the program will be in gene mapping and marker-assisted breeding across multiple crops and multiple environments, where there may be significant epistasis and gene-by-environment interactions.
The goal of this challenge is to identify one or more Groups that are capable and willing to complete the task described above and deliver the product. The expected deliverable from the Solver is a description of a Group that can fulfill this challenge, a justification for their selection, and a letter of interest from the Group for submitting a formal proposal.
The recommended Group must meet ALL of the following criteria:
Good knowledge of statistical genetics, population genetics, and computer sciences are required. Experience in plant or animal breeding is highly desirable.
Efficient programming skills in C/C++ or Java are required. Programming experience in R statistics is highly desirable.
Work experience in computer simulations for statistics, genetics, and/or breeding in plants, animals or humans is required.
Track record for publishing a well-known genetic simulation programs or programs that contain a significant portion for genetic simulation is required.
Once the Solver has submitted the required information (Solvers may submit more than one), our Client will review the submission, and request a full proposal from the Group. The Client will make a $10,000 award for each complete proposal received that meets these requirements.
