History Of WordPress

This is my understanding

of the development of WordPress.

In the early days of website development

website developers used

HTML

hypertext markup language

to place text, images and videos

on a website

and to control how it was displayed.

Typically websites consisted of several pages

Home was often static because changes

caused links to break

with other pages.

This was the case for all other pages

because it was not automated.

Each page's links

had to be set up manually;

usually a job for website developers.

Then WordPress came on the scene

as something to be installed on existing websites

and you could create a blog to house articles.

It was possible to search all articles.

This helped organize information and topics

and

enabled things to be kept tidy.

An entire blog could look consistent

and

changes could be made easily

without

the necessity of a web developer.

Then people

started using their blog as a main website

and

the blog software was used

to control everything.

It had the ability to update links

and

to keep a consistent look.

There was no need to go to a developer

to get modifications carried out.

Pages could now be dynamic

and links could update automatically.

This allowed developers

to create tools called plugins and widgets:

pieces of software that do specific tasks

resulting in

increased site functionality.

Now

instead of paying a developer

to create

something specifically for a website

a plugin or widget can be found

to do that task for you.

In a Brief History of WordPress

Brin Wilson said,

Limited only by the imagination

of the people who use and develop it,

WordPress

presumably has a very, very bright future"!
