Are These The

Three Most

Important Advertising Rules?

We are surrounded during the day

with a huge amount

of advertising

that clamors for our attention.

Advertising has many rules

that successful copywriters follow

but the following three rules

for me should underpin

all advertising.

Audience Number One.

Your audience

should always be

at the forefront of your mind.

What are their hurts and pains?

What troubles them?

What difficulties

are they faced with overcoming?

Why are they not living

the life of which they dream?

Can I help?

Visit these issues with them

and offer to give them a solution

and you will become

their hero

and someone from whom

they eagerly look forward to hearing.

No Clickbait.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clickbait

Clickbait

is a pejorative term for web content

whose main goal

is to get users to click on a link

to go to a certain web page.

Clickbait headlines

typically aim to exploit the "curiosity gap",

providing just enough information

to make readers curious,

but not enough to satisfy their curiosity

without clicking through

to the linked content.

From a historical perspective,

 the techniques

employed by clickbait authors

can be considered derivative of yellow journalism,

which presented

little or no legitimate well-researched news

and instead

used eye-catching headlines

that included

exaggerations of news events,

scandal-mongering, or sensationalism.

Consistent.

http://www.brandfactory.com.au/ideas/7-Golden-Rules-of-Marketing

To be consistent means being clear on your

unique selling proposition

(USP)

and conveying this

to your audience consistently.

What do you have to offer?

What benefits do you bring to the association?

What is your uniqueness?

Consistency is one of those vague attributes

that everyone wants,

but few people actually manage to gain.

To be consistent requires

a certain commitment on your part.

You commit yourself

to a sustained effort of action over the long-term.

Audience number one.

No Clickbait.

Consistent.

These are my Golden rules for advertising.

Please share yours.
