The baby boom generation started in 1946 when births went from 2.8 to 3.4 million. The ending is considered 1964 when annual births dropped below 4 million. During the Baby Boomer years, 1946-1964, 75.8 million Americans were born. Fortunately, the ratio of males to females has stayed relatively constant.

Here’s the emerging dilemma. The middle class and baby boomers are beginning to realize that corporations and governments will not be here to sustain their lifestyles in the end.
Most baby boomers started too late – well into their thirties in some cases – instead of capitalizing on the funds earned in their early 20’s. As a result, many people over the age of 60 have saved barely a quarter of what they really need to retire on.
As boomers age, it is expected that 42 percent who reach age 70 will need some form of long term care, such as an in-home caregiver or a nursing home, which is expensive. The average annual cost of a nursing home today is $57,000.
As well, the ongoing precession and the high rate of unemployment have hit workers at every age.
