Communicate with Integrity - (Sunday Comics)
As entrepreneurs and owners of home based business, we all realize that communicating the benefits of our products and services is critical to the growth of our business.
In my last blog, "How to be an Artist of Persuasion' we talked about the importance of not speaking "past" our prospect, but concentrating on them...their needs and wants and letting them know how and why our products and services are right for them to attain their goals.
I ran across a short story that helps illustrate the need for carefully understanding the desires of our prospects and making sure that we are indeed giving them what they need. case in point follows:
One day as a young bull was grazing through some bushes, he came upon a turkey squatting on the ground among the shrubs, moaning softly to himself.
Striking up a conversation and hoping to help, the bull asked the turkey: "Why are you sitting here on the ground moaning, Mr. Turkey?"
Looking up at the bull, the turkey sighed: “I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree, but I haven’t got the energy.”
“Well, why don’t you nibble on my droppings?” replied the bull. “They’re packed with nutrients and organic seeds, that would be healthy for you and give you the energy you need."
The turkey, trusting the advice of the bull, pecked at a lump of dung and found that it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, he made it to the top of the tree.
The next morning, the young bull saw his friend, sitting proudly in the top of the tree. Just as the bull was thinking about how he had helped his friend and feeling good about the sound advice he had given, a farmer stepped out of the trees and shot the turkey out of the tree.
Moral of the story: BS might get you to the top, but it wont keep you there.
