Bubba Bought The Very First One!

If you read my posts, you might be familiar with my good friend Bubba.  He is probably the nicest person on the planet, just not too bright.  Years ago, Bubba heard a knock at his door.  He opened the door and found a salesman selling a strange new product.  
"What is it?" queried Bubba.
"A thermos." was the salesman's reply.
Bubba had never seen anything like this, he could not help but ask, "What does it do?"
"It keeps hot things hot and cold thing cold."  answered the peddler.  
Bubba was sure that it would be perfect for the lunch he packed for work each day, he bought one.
The next day Bubba brought his thermos to work.  "What does it do?"
In a flash Bubba answered, "It keeps hot thing hot and cold things cold."
"What did you put in it?"  asked his coworkers.
"Two cups of coffee and two Popsicles."

Bubba and I were in Cherokee, NC. It is an Indian reservation and a beautiful area that caters to tourists. Bubba had his eye on a nice piece of pottery at one of the local Cherokee tourists stops.  
"Everything in here is genuine Indian pottery." said the sales clerk.  
Bubba pointed to the bottom, "It says 'Made In Cleveland'."
"You have heard of the Cleveland Indians, haven't you?"

Bubba tried selling once.  
He told me how he went to this house and asked the little boy on the porch, "Is you Mommy home?"  
The boy said yes, so Bubba knocked on the door. No one answered, so Bubba rang the bell.  Still no answer.  
"You said your mommy was home." Bubba said to the boy.  
"She is, but I don't live here."

OTO  (One Time Offer)

In my opinion, whether you use a one time offer depends on your niche.  Most Internet Marketers  believe that you and I should always use a one time offer, but make it a low priced offer.  My opinion is that if your niche is a short term or one time purchase kind of niche, then you and I had better include an OTO.  

If your window of opportunity is small, you probably should have one or more OTO's.   In other words, if this is probably your only opportunity, include an OTO.   If your niche is a long term one such as weight loss, diabetes, or quitting smoking, then I tend to go easier on the ads.   I believe that you want to nurture the long term niches and do not want them to feel that they are being sold.   For a long time niche, I often replace the OTO with a bonus that is free or a downsell rather than an upsell..  Of course, split testing will determine which is best for your niche.

OTO Defined:

By definition (Internet marketing dictionary)   A one time offer is a "marketing strategy to increase product sales by putting a considerable stress on the potential buyer to buy now. Essential part of an One Time Offer is that it is made very clear to the visitor that he has only one chance to purchase the product and this is now and if he couldn’t decide right now he wouldn’t get another chance."
"One Time Offers are most frequently used on thank-you pages as an upsell offer after a visitor just has made a purchase or subscribed to a list or signed up for a membership."

When a one time offer is accepted (you make a sale), you should follow up with another offer.  Your second offer is usually more expensive and should still have a sense of urgency.  

Upsell/ Downsell!??

An upsell or downsell is usually an extension of your original offer.  Upselling is asking your buyer to....
