What Occupies Our Thoughts?

What occupies our thoughts?

It’s a worthy question. Wouldn’t you say? I submit that our minds are mass producing idea factories. We desire, we think, and we act. If we are in agreement on these aspects of our emotional, mental and physical faculties, we would also agree that we must guard our hearts and minds carefully. If our desires and thoughts produce our steps, we ought to ensure we have good filters in place.

Filters come in various forms and can be described in a number of different ways. Regardless of the forms and descriptions, the main purpose of a filter is to restrict one thing and enable another. So… I ask you, “What do you want to flow through your life?” I will tell you that anything and everything are possible, both good and bad; therefore, I recommend setting up priorities and non-negotiables as a part of our filtration system. In my personal opinion, the Bible is also an essential part of the filtration system. Point being, we must first learn to channel our desires and thoughts effectively if we want to control our actions appropriately. In the most positive sense imaginable, I charge you to put these filters in place and anything and everything are possible! Not only that, our personal growth and level of maturity will skyrocket.

I read a book years ago by Darren Hardy called the Compound Effect. While there was much to glean from this book, the main point I want to emphasize here is that small positive changes followed consistently over a long period of time will yield significant compound effects. Think about it... This will work for almost anything: faith, family, friends, finances, fun, etc. Granted, many other factors are involved in these categories, but you and I are the ones in control of ourselves. We literally have that power. The question is, “Do we exercise that power with discipline?” I recommend a close examination with brutal honesty for us all. If changes are necessary, be willing to admit it, put a plan in place, and consistently act. I heard recently from a friend on Facebook, “If you don’t like the story you are in, change it.”

Our lives may not be exactly as we want them to be, but we, alongside of God, hold the power of change for ourselves. Let’s not point the finger of blame away from ourselves and towards others; rather, let’s look in the mirror and see what changes are necessary within. I’m showing you the door and you have the key. I urge you to walk towards it, open it, and go through. You and I are created in the image of God. We have intelligent design and a unique purpose. Every one of us has worth, born and unborn. We are powerful beings and capable of great things. If we put the right filtration system in place and stay in close proximity with our good friend, Discipline, anything and everything are possible!!

What will occupy our thoughts?
