I home-schooled my now 7th grader for her 6th grade year. Our reasoning was the academic & social environment at her school was a disaster! The teachers didn't encourage the advancement of education they actually discouraged. The bulling wasn't only by the kids, worse then what you would expect for that age, it was also the teachers.
Needless to say we did a lot of research on the subject. I was able to get a detailed list of all the state requirements for each grade, for each subject. We were a great team! Yet her stress of making sure that she was getting all the requirements got to be too much. She also missed her few friends even though she didn't see them much anyway at school, and after school due to activities.
Her education went above what was expected yet she was still concerned. This is the type of person she is.
We got wonderful tools / materials that is great for all ages!
She went back to public school this year at a different school. They student & educators community is one of doing what is best for the students. The decision to go to this school was a good one.
Be aware that there a lot of people out there that will tell you that it will never work. Boy did I have that! Yet I did have many that backed me up & was proud that I stood up for what was best for her.
I even had a "family" member tell me that it was the worst thing that my daughter & I did & a "disaster". Even though he had proof that we did what was required & then some. You can't please them all.
