When you are starting out working online, your goal is to try and replace the income from your job using only the limited time you have available, productivity is everything.
How much you can get done in the time you have is what dictates how quickly you'll be able to free yourself and reach your desired income.
It's almost impossible to get home from working full time to work another 4 or 5 hours a night especially if you have kids and other responsibilities. Most people cannot do that long term and give up quickly from getting burnt out.
Here are two things I recommend that will help you considerably:
"To Do" list or not?
By utilizing a To Do list, you work your way through, crossing off, or removing items as you go, right? But what usually happens is NOTHING! It can feel like you worked all night for... nothing. Or at least something unidentifiable. This messes around with your head and doesn't allow you to have the mental state for continued productivity.
How about making A "DONE List"?
That's what I started to do. I kept my to do list, but then each time I finish an item, I transfer it over to a DONE list. The DONE list is amazing how it makes you feel. Every time I look at it I think, "I am being super productive today!". I watch my "done" list get bigger and bigger through the day (rather than smaller and smaller with crosses all through it) and at the end I can sit and go, "Wow, I really got things done today".
Then the next day, I feel like I want to make my done list bigger than the day before! There's some really powerful ways in which it influences your mind and the way you think about the work you're doing.
If you're not yet sold on the idea, here's the kicker:
You know when you have a busy week, and you get to Friday and think "Where did this WEEK go?", not even remembering how you passed through it so quickly?
With your done list you can open up your Done List file on note cards or on a digital one and everything you did through the week is there. You can rest assured that time isn't on fast forward and actually it went so quickly just because you were burning through tasks and accelerating towards your goals!
So why not start a "Done List" and see if this works for you!
