Social media can be a very effective communication tool. It is easy to make this tool ineffective by doing certain things. Here are 10 things you want to avoid while engaging in social media allowing you to waste less time and make more money.
1. Do no post the boring, routine details of your life that no one, other than perhaps a close friend or family member really cares about. When you are trying to build a business, do you really think your customers care about what you are cooking for dinner or how many times you took a coffee break?
2. Don't forget who your target audience. Talking about things your target audience doesn't care about will definitely get them to ignore you quicker.
3. Don't make your posts all look the same. If you continue to post the same information over and over again, the online world will consider you boring and mundane and they will end up ignoring you and blocking you. Mix it up a little, keep it fresh!
4. Don't make your posts sound like everyone else’s posts. Be original using your own ideas and ask your own questions.
5. Don't limit yourself to just retweeting and reposting links from others. This shows that you have few original thoughts, just the ability to be a digital parrot. Don't be lazy and always offer quality content worth sharing!
6. Don't just sell. Aggressively pitching your business to others on a regular basis is the one thing no one likes. Don't risk your reputation by doing this.
7. Don't make the mistake of publicly posting part of a private conversation or talk about something that people don't understand by not saying the complete phrase.....
8. Don't post when you are annoyed at something or someone. This is a great way to look like you lack self control. It also suggests a strong personal need for attention.
9. Don't post general, vague, depressed comments no one will understand. “Today is the worst.” “Why must people be so mean?” These are cries for attention. Don't let anyone mistake you as a drama queen.
10. Don't post information without fact-checking. Afterall, once you post something you can't get it back!
Social media is really relatively easy to use, quick and allows direct communication. It also makes it very easy to damage your image and reputation in front of your prospects and business partners!
