Safety is an issue. physical safety, internet safety, property safety, identity safety

These days you cannot be too careful. Many things in the world around you affect your safety. Physical safety for one, what are you capable of doing in your present condition. Don't take any thing for granted. Internet safety is being attacked all the time. Property safety is a big concern, fire, theft, break ins. And of course you cannot forget identity safety, the thieves are out there.
Let's take physical safety first, in your heart and mind you are still 23 and can do all of the things you did then. But in reality you are 67 with medical problems that limit your activities. I think the biggest issue right here is allowing yourself more time. When you hurry, you are setting yourself up for a misstep.
Get that aid - crutch, cane, walker, stair chair. What ever you need to make your environment safer to navigate.
You think it will take you 30 minutes to get ready - give yourself an hour.
Internet safety, almost everyone has it now, some use it a lot, others only check their email. Whatever you do you are at risk when you place yourself out there. Get a good virus protection system. Check them out, it is your choice but going without one can be a disaster.
Property safety, what can I say? Protect your possession from the ne'er do wells who are just waiting for the opportunity to take, vandalize, or destroy things that don't belong to them. A good security system or a big mean dog.
Identity safety, protect yours. Don't put information on the internet that you don't want the whole world to know. Not everyone who asks for it really needs your personal information. They can use it to steal your identity or more likely sell it to someone else who will.
Unless you really feel that the whole world needs to know that you will be gone for an extended period of time, don't put that information on Facebook or Twitter.
It sets you up for a world of problems - muggers in the city you will be visiting, home break ins - everyone knows you won't be there, identity theft - phone calls to your family and friends "I am stranded, please send money to..."
Think it over and have a good day, Janie

A TB&L for you! |
| | | | | It always amazes me what some people are willing to knowingly post online. Then there are others who don't fine tune their privacy settings would be shocked to find out what is available about them online. You are right Janie, care must be taken lest we become a victim of the information age. |

| | | | | As someone in the safety and health profession I can appreciate your blog. Providing for one's safety allows one to maintain their foundation for performance and potential. When safety is over-looked the structure of life is weakened, thereby compromising one's ability to perform (subsequently their ability to achieve their potential). Have a blessed day. |
