SEO Practices Step #1: Keyword Research

In order to have content for press releases, I've decided to do a series on SEO.

Instead of doing it all at once, I will break it down into little pieces, so more people can get more details.

With that said, let's dive into step 1, which is keyword research.

Keyword Research

If you are looking to get on page 1 of Google or any of the search engines, first thing you need, is a keyword in which you wish to rank for.

If you research some ideas for keywords, look for the ones that have few articles, or even no articles posted for them.

The less the keyword is searched, or written about, the better your odds of getting to page 1 become.

So start by looking for keywords and phrases that no one else has created material on, and use those.

Websites with the most authority, usually win the SEO battle.

This means, if you search for the keyword "SEO" and a nrand new blogger has written a piece of content on it, expect it to be in dead last place.

While a site such as Linkedin, or Entrepreneur will be at the top.

Since we all start with no authority, we need to work on building it up.

This is why you shoot for less competitive keywords, and work your way up.

Or, you can use websites to place content on that have higher authority, and send traffic from there to your content.

Building Authority For Keywords

Always begin using low searched keywords when you are new, and get the small amounts of traffic to help with authority.

Use platforms such as Linkedin, and guest blog on other platforms as much as possible, linking to your content for more authority.

If you find a keyword that has little competition, write a piece of content on it, regardless of search traffic.

Example: I ranked #1 for a large keyword, using a keyword that had no competition but was searched quite a bit every month.

My Linkedin article ranked #1 on all search engines, and my blog was on page 1 as well. It placed all my content on page 1 since I am the only one who used the keyword in my title.

Did This Help?

If you got some value on using keywords, or this helps explain why you begin with lower searched keywords, leave me a comment below.
