SEO Practices Step #2: On Page Optimization

Now that we have our keyword research figured out, we can now move towards creating content.


In this PR I will talk more on "on-page optimization" so you can have a btter shot at ranking.


If you've not seen Step 1 Keyword Research then be sure to start there.





First and foremost when creating new content, you must make it as valuable as possible.


The better the content is for the reader, the more they read and stay longer.


This helps your bounce rate, which determines to the search engines what's good and what's not.


Create the best possible content you can to maintain the reader.



Using The Keywords


Place the keyword you picked, into the title of your content.


Also, be sure to include it, along with related keywords throughout the body of the content.


This helps the search engine determine your content is geared towards that keyword.


Do not over do the keywords in the body of course. Keeping it less then 3% of the words is best. I use the keyword a few times in a 500 to 1000 word blog post, and a few related keywords just once.





Include images in your content to help it look better.


Placing images that get people to stare for a while is useful. Remember, we need them to stay a long time on the page.


Also, when you load the image to your computer, name it on it's file name the keyword and related keywords.


Use multiple images, each with a keyword that is related to the content or keyword you are trying to rank for.



Include A Video


By putting a video in your content, you really increase the odds of ranking.


First off, if the video is on Youtube and used embedded in the blog post, you can rank the video itself on page one of google much quicker then the blog post.


Videos also help people stay longer, perhaps watching the video directly from the blog post itself.


It's always best to place a video, that is also named the keyword you are trying to rank for in your content.



Add Distractors


I call it a distractor.


But what I mean is adding something that can help keep a visitor on the page longer.


This can be a little snippet of a trivia question, an image that's in motion, or anything in the middle of the content to get the reader to take notice.


Adding a box with a question and a clickable answer will be good enough to get a person to stay a few seconds longer and help your bounce rate.



Be Careful With Links


Never add a link in the content that is a "follow" link. This will hurt your SEO ranking.


Instead, if you add a link, make sure it's a no-follow link.


The fewer links the better.




Linking to content on your own blog is a good thing.


Inbound links, that stay on the site, will help. When people view other pages or pieces of content you published, it tells the search engines that your content is good.
