If You Build It, They Will Come

Ever see the movie "Field Of Dreams" with Kevin Costner?

 

If I remember right, that was the movie that had the voice say "If you build it, they will come".

 

It may be true for Kevin in a movie, but in real life with a blog, is it?

 

Actually, no.

 

So let's look at some ways, after we build a blog, to get people to come visit our site and generate some sales.

 

 

Promoting Your Content

 

First thing we have to do to get people to come to our site, is promote it.

 

Post it on social media, and in social media groups where the group is somewhat related to our content.

 

If you aren't sharing it in groups, you are missing out on a lot of traffic.

 

But best way to use groups to get traffic, is to have others share it instead of yourself.

 

When others begin posting it in groups, it just has more leg in it.

 

 

Paid Advertising

 

Many people think they can only run a landing page with paid advertising, or that they should only run those.

 

Many top bloggers actually ran posts they made on their blog with paid ads on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.

 

When you have a good piece of content, it can't hurt to invest a little money into getting traffic for it.

 

Down the road this can be really helpful as this traffic helps to generate results in your analytics. Which, if they do well, can help get it to the top of search engines.

 

 

Ever Get Asked Questions From Prospects?

 

Do you ever get questions from people who are either prospects, or team members you work with?

 

These questions usually get asked more then just once, so when you have a question asked, create a piece of content on it.

 

When you get the same question asked again, go search on your blog to see if you have content on it.

 

Here is a good source to send the person to the post you made, and answer their question.

 

This saves you time, and helps your traffic and rankings for your blog.

 

 

Should I Use Traffic Exchanges?

 

Actually, this can hurt more then help.

 

Since most visitors are on for just a few seconds, it can hurt your blog more then help it.

 

You may develop a reader or two from it, but with thousands of others just opening and closing it out, hurts with rankings more then helps.

 

I'd stay away from this practice and source.

 

 

Use The Power Of Larger Websites

 

One way I've generated traffic to my blog, is by writing additional articles, on the same question I blogged on.

 

Pointing traffic from the article to my blog, I sometimes see people who comment on the article, turn into subscribers the same day on my blog.

 

This tells me that a percentage of people do click the link.

 

If you get creative with this, you can find ways to point traffic to your blog, like mention your free gift in a P.S line.

 

Plus, linking to your blog, and then promoting that article that links to the blog, can help with backlinks and additional visitors.

 

 

Email And Messaging

 

When you release a new piece of content, be sure to mail your list of subscribers about it.

 

Your email can generate traffic to your blog, and this only grows as you continue promoting the blog and generating subscribers.

 

You can also message people on social media, share a link in a direct message on Twitter, and simply promote your content to those you connect with on social media.
