ON BECOMING A WHOLE PERSON (Part 1)
Another passion of mine is Health & Fitness. My city, Calgary, is known to be the Volunteer Capital of Canada. In the '90s I was volunteering for a non-profit Women's Organization and I did a Seminar on "The Whole Person."
So, I will just write a synopsis of my half-a-day seminar here and make this into a 3-part blog.
The Whole Person
A whole person is said to be a balanced person - balanced in such a way that he/ she is healthy in the three aspects of life. That is, Physically, Emotionally, Mentally and Spiritually. And, this involves our Body, Mind & Soul. If we are not fit in any one of these aspects we will not function very well in life.
Physical Health
Our body needs smart nutrition, exercise, fresh air and water in order for it to be physically healthy. Smart nutrition means choosing the right food to eat so that every cell in our body will get the right nutrients it needs. There is a Food Guide that we can follow so we can properly nourish our body on a daily basis. Smart nutrition and regular exercise go hand in hand if we want to achieve optimal physical health.
Emotional Health
Medical research shows that our emotions have a major impact on our physical health - that illness maybe influenced by our emotional state. You see, just like our body we have to care for our emotional health. When you feel emotionally secure, you're able to be much more proactive and much less reactive in your life. This allows you to make smart choices and smart choices make for good health.
Mental Health
Mental health is the state of your intellectual & emotional well being. It refers to how one is able to cope with the demands and stress of day-to-day living. Most people will have days when they feel down, become irritated over small issues or even think that the world is out to get them. If a person's mental health is positive and maintained properly, they are able to quickly resolve their issues, manage their emotional reactions and get on with their day.
Spiritual Health
Spiritual well-being means different things to different people. For some, developing a spiritual life works within a religious context. They go to a specific place of worhip, study religious texts, and take a active role in their spiritual community. Today, most people want to feel connected to a Divine presence in some way. For me as a Christian, I find peace, security & contentment with my personal relationship with Jesus, my Saviour.
