The REAL Meaning Of Christmas
"For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given...." Isaiah 9:6
"Today, in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger." Luke 2:11-12
In the Old Testament of the Bible, Jesus' birth was foretold, Jesus is the "Promised One." He fulfilled every Old Testament scripture that looked forward to His coming in Bethlehem. And, this is the reason Christians celebrate the Christmas season.
Then the tradition of giving gifts started shortly after Jesus' birth when 3 wise men came and presented Him with gifts of gold, incense and myrrh. People eversince have given each other gifts to celebrate the joy of Christ coming into the world.
We don't give gifts directly to Him, but we give presents to family and friends to let them know that we love and value them. God, the Father has given us the greatest gift of all by sending us His Son, Jesus - His gift of salvation.
You see, we are separated from God because of our sin, so God sent His Son into the world to take away our sins, by dying on the cross and offer us the gift of salvation. We don't deserve it, but God in His love offers it to us just the same.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
Just as His birth, death and ressurection was prophesied and fulfilled, we as Christians know the promise that Jesus is coming again will also be fulfilled.
May you and your family have a blessed Christmas season filled with an understanding of who Jesus is and why He came to this world!
