Making the BEST of Instagram

Just recently in a previous PR, I dealt with the issue of measuring the results of your advertising and deciding what is most effective and productive in terms of sales and new sign ups.

This is a brief update about a feature of Instagram that I discovered quite by accident.  For a number of reasons I wanted a way of accessing Instagram on my PC and it was not designed for that - it was intended to be a mobile app.

Instagram can be a very rewarding and effective way to promote your business and I wanted  to find ways that I could optimize the time I spent on this advertising platform.

There are a number of ways that you can run Instagram on the Windows desktop but I found the most obvious one - that is to say, going via the Instagram website - has limitations. You can look at your account and that of others but you can't post, direct-message someone, or upload media.

There are basically 4 possibilities for Windows

  1. Simply access your account via the Instagram website -
  2. If you use Google Chrome as your main browser, install the Instagram extension, similar one for Firefox

  3. If you are running Windows 10 or above, there is an Instagram app

  4. Install BlueSticks Android emulator which will 'encapsulate' the Instagram app.

When I accessed I noticed that when I moused over each of my posts on my own account page AND those of others,  it showed up the number of likes and comments as an overlay. I'm not getting the number of views in that info, but as I write I have just under 350 followers so I would hope that at least half of those will at least glance at my post every day.

It does give you enough info though, to allow you to see which of your posts is the most attractive and compelling.

On the basis of this, I have eliminated some of the less effective ad images and concentrated on the best-liked ones.

I have also started to 'engage' more with my followers and likers, offering them additional info. This is important because although you can put a proper link in your Instagram PROFILE, in a post it only shows up as text.

Sending your warm audience a direct message allows you to send a proper link to prompt another look and also for a preview to show up so that they remember what it is that they liked.

Right now, the business I am advertising - CTFO CBD products, doesn't give me stats on how many times my site is viewed. So, the next tweak I added is to use a URL shortener - like IBOURL right here on your desktop!

Now I have a fully formed Instagram campaign for my business. Please do not hesitate to comment and ask if you need additional info about any of the above. I hope to see some of you showing up as followers very soon and do mention to me that you found my Instagram account ID on IBOToolbox.

Thank you for reading
