Facebook started rolling out the Timeline design for fan pages yesterday. What does this mean for your business, and what changes are involved with the new design?
It’s more and more about images now, more visual branding. 1. Default Landing Tabs are replaced with Fan gates:
Facebook has removed the ability to create a default landing tab. Instead of landing tabs you can create fan gates. The size of the new tabs is 810px.
2. Photos, Likes, and Apps at Top of Page:
Photos, likes and apps are now at the top of your Page. Photos show in the first spot, but you can change the order of everything else so people see what matters most. You can show a maximum number of 12 apps, so make sure to put your most important ones first.
3. Pin your favorite post to the top:
Hover over a story and click on the star ( star icon ) to make it a highlight, This will make your post wider so it will occupy both columns, or click on the pencil ( pencil icon ) to pin it to the top of your Page, hide or delete it entirely.
4. New Administrator Panel:
Keep track of your activity on your Page from the admin panel. Respond when people write on your Page timeline, and view your latest insights. Visit your activity log to review all your posts and activity. This is actual a great improvement, you can see everything right away, no more clicking around.
5. Fan Page Messages:
Now people can contact you privately using messages. This new update makes it possible to use your fanpage as a customer service channel for example. Notifications about new messages will appear right in your admin panel.
6. Cover Photo:
The cover photo can be up to 850px by 315px but may NOT contain the following:
>>Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”.
>>Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section.
>>References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features.
>>Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”. Just like your personal Facebook Timeline, all cover images that you use are public to anyone visiting your Facebook page
7. Your Facebook Fan Page profile picture:
Like on the your personal Timeline, there is a place for a profile picture. The size is 180 pixels wide and no longer do you have the banner option as in the past. But, you can actually click on that image to get your old banner if you previously had one installed.
Changes are also being made to the Facebook ads. They will be more effective and more visual as well. As soon as I find out more, I’ll let you know, OK?
