Have you noticed how fast we are moving these days? If you stand still for a moment, this world will run you over. It happens in every aspect of this life. If you drive your car at the speed limit, you'll get run over. Everyone is in a hurry. We no longer have time to stop and help one another or just say hello. It really should not be this way. There are some words and phrases that we don't use anymore like wait, hold on and take your time.
This world needs something that is truly lacking today. The attribute is patience. It has been said that we live in a "right now world." Everything today has to be instantaneous. Our digital world with computers, smart phones, IPods and IPads gives us instant access to just about anything that we want and when we want it. This information and technology age has given us so much so fast that we are intolerant of anything that takes more than a fraction of a second to accomplish.
We are so tied up with technology and its speed and access that all of us have forgotten to take the human element into consideration. Stopping our fast march forward for a moment will help us realize that we have left the most important thing out. Us. When was the last time you decided to turn off that cell phone or computer and spend some quality time with your family. If we would give up those things for a few minutes each day to spend some time with your family and coworkers our lives and relationships would be strengthened. Also our country would be better and the world would take a sigh of relief. We are all going too fast. Our minds and bodies need to rest and have some peace.
One of my mentors back in West Virginia would always say that whatever is confronting us now will pass because "Time will kill it all." He was urging us to have patience and wait on time to do its thing concerning the problem. We all worry about what is happening today. But if you look back several years or months at the problems you had, you will in some cases not remember how they were resolved. Time did kill it. We should all remember that the race is not won by the strong nor the weak, but by those who endure to the end. Let's have patience and slow down!
