Y Generation Considers Future Jobs and Meets Sherlock with Master Distributor

This blog will share two things with readers:
1. Y Generation employees bring a different talent to the workplace as reported in newspapers (Vancouver Sun). Employers will need to use different methods than what has worked for previous generations to retain young people.
“With 10 million Canadian baby boomers retiring in the next 10 to 15 years and only eight million Gen Yers (born from roughly 1982 to 2000) to replace them, employers must appeal to their core values.”
For example, boomers always thought about money and a stellar career. Money for boomers is great reward.
Y Generation…not so much. We want time - time to lead a blended life, time outside of work. I would rather have a holiday than work overtime for money. My life is not my job.
2. A quick review of where to find the upcoming future jobs in 2025 leaves me sadly out of focus:
a. health care and social assistance. There will be 44 retirees for every 100 workers or babyboomers. I was never drawn to patient care.
b. manufacturing of high value items like semi-conductors vs sneakers or furniture
c. agriculture or fishing for food production. Not sure I could survive on a tractor or fishing boat!
d. mining, oil and gas extraction jobs could double. I’m only 112 pounds and I believe more in environmentalism.
e. construction industry for housing market may vary. May be a sexist environment.
f. financial services may grow or not based on the economy. It takes years to be an expert and numbers were not my favorite pastime.
f. retail industry will have drop-offs…I could do this…but don’t like the sudden drop-offs.
So where does an ambitious and creative Gen Yer turn to?
