How do you feel about this question: Is it a difficult time to be a young person in the Y Generation or are young people 'getting the shaft'?
In my experience it's the young people who will be the last to be hired, the first to be fired, and have their benefits cut. College students especially feel like they are entering a world with less and less opportunities. The plentiful jobs aren’t there to pay off huge loans and work towards success.
The fact is there is 50% unemployment amongst college grads of the last four years with an average income of $40,000 for those lucky enough to have found a job.
Many college grads are saddled with debt and unable to buy a home or obtain other credit. In some cases they may not be able to pursue the careers they studied for because they must take low-paying jobs just to try to keep up.
One grad lamented, "Even once I have that full-time job so I can make the monthly payments, I am looking at 15 to 30 years to pay this off."
I listened to a program that stated that the old method of 'study hard, go to a good school, and get a great job' no longer works. I’ve heard it said that for the first time parents are feeling that their children won’t have a better life than they did.
But it doesn't have to be this way.
