“Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.” ~ Thomas Edison
If you are in business for yourself, you are in sales. Bottom line. Anyone who tries to tell you different is being MUCH less than honest with you. I see ads all the time stating "NO Sales Involved". This is totally inaccurate. Someone has to be sold on your product or service or they won't buy it and you won't make any money.
Sometimes selling is disguised by using words like referrals and promoting your site. Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but this is sales.
Why go into the whole thing about sales? Because as the quote from Mr. Edison states above, being busy doesn't always mean real work. If you are going through the motions but not engaging your audience and getting them on board with what you sell or what you do, then you're "work" is not they type that will lead to your success.
Your activity must be focused, at least part of the time, on putting your name, your product, your service, in front of the people that are going to be potential customers. If this isn't acceptable to you then perhaps you should remain in the world where you punch a time card for a living because at least in that environment busy is often mistaken for real work.
You might wonder how I know anything about this subject. Let me just confess right here in front of the entire internet world that I have suffered this malady myself and had to learn the hard way that it doesn't matter how busy I was, if it didn't result in a paycheck I was wasting my time blaming anyone but myself. I joined program after program and thought that I was just being "tricked" and "scammed". Sometimes I was, but not always. Most of the time it wasn't a lack of effort on my part, it was a lack or PROPERLY FOCUSED EFFORT that resulted in the failure.
You can take this advice or not, praise it or scoff at it, but in the end just remember, it's what you do ~AND~ how you do it that will determine your success. If you're not sure how to improve your situation then ask for help. Contact me or contact some of the other people that are making things happen.
