JoAnne Mbonigaba Profile PictureWell, JoAnne here and in today's blog, I will share with you 5 tips on How to Fully Utilise Google Alerts to Enhance Your Business.

First off, what is Google Alerts?

Google Alerts is a service provided by Google that monitors content online, new or changes to content online around phrases or keywords of your choosing and then sends an email to you highlighting and linking to relevant new or changed content be it a web page, press release, blog, article or new scientific research.

Now you know what it is, here are 5 tips on how to maximise the benefit of this amazing tool provided by google:

1) Monitor what people (customers or competitors are saying about you and your business online).

Maximize the use of Google Alerts to monitor your online reputation

One of the keys to online marketing that is often overlooked is social listening. Listening to what is being shared socially about you and responding or interceding on a timely basis. Google alerts can make this very easy for you to do by setting up an alert on the various spellings of your name and business brand.

2) Monitor your key competitors and or thought leaders in the industry.

Benefit for Google Alerts to listen to your competitors

Likewise, the same way you want to keep track of what is being said about you and your business, you will also want to monitor and keep abreast of changes in your industry and with competitors by setting up alerts on thought leaders and brands that you follow and or compete with.

3) Setup alerts on your best clients and customers

use Google Alerts to become a star in your clients eyes

Use Google Alerts to track important news and updates on your best clients and customers so that you can be one of the first to either congratulate them on some great news or offer your assistance in time of need. Or better, yet point out some false or bad news being shared socially about them that they need to address promptly. In either situation, you will prove yourself to be a valued ally with little time invested because the results are brought to you!

4) Use Google Alerts to be notified of trends on key components, partners or tools you use

Get the most out of Google Alerts by staying on top of trends

The pace of progress continues to speed up and, often being an early adopter is of huge value, so why not use google tools to help you spot trend or key updates? Yes, setup Google Alerts on key tools or practices that you use in your business and perhaps artificial intelligence in your industry to keep on top or ahead of the curve.

5) Set a google alert to monitor links to your website(s)

Use Google Alerts to track inbound links to your content

Last but not least, links to your website or blog or huge in helping people finding you online so create an alert to track when other web sites that link to your content by using the “link:domainname.com” syntax and be sure to send a thank you and or an offer to guest blog or the likes to add more value depending on the site.

So there you have it, go set up your Google Alerts today and in under 10 minutes you can implement these 5 tips and be that much further ahead in protecting and prospering your business online.

To your success
