Flipping the Switch

The path to achieving a goal is plainly obvious. However most fail to take it. Some say we should be motivated and think about how we will feel if we succeed. Some say we should visualize ourselves actually achieving the goal. Still others advise that we make written affirmations of having achieved the goal. These may be of some help but clearly not as powerful as this one thing that every one can choose to do before they embark on a goal or a mission. It is simple! Merely make a commitment to yourself that you will succeed. Don't provide yourself any escape clauses like "I will try my best". What does try mean? In some sense it permits failure by allowing moving on to something else. How does one make a commitment to oneself? It is like a decision with no turning back. It is as simple as that. Whether you want to lose weight, stop smoking, or make x amount of money, you commit to the result. It is not a whim. It is not a mental “I will try it.” It is a mental “I will do it!” Once made, there is no turning back. I call it flipping the switch. We all know what commitment is and some choose never to take this path. I am particularly fund of the following quotation and found it to be true in a number of personal experiences. “Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.” --W.
