Network Marketing: The Warm List
Fundamental to the establishment of a network marketing business is the creation of what is called the "warm list." In fact, it's so critical to success. A "warm list" is a group of individuals from your past and present whom you know well enough that were you to pick up the telephone and call them, they would recognize you once they heard your name.
The value of a warm list is that for the first few months, new affiliates are able to speak with people they know, and more importantly, those with whom they would love to forge a lifetime business relationship. Futhermore, it matters little to this group of family and friends that affiliates are new or that their presentations are mediocre. By beginning with this inner circle, what I call "warm contacts", new affiliates will be prepared to enter the more judgmental world of "cold marketing," attempting to recruit professionals whom they've never met, should they have to do so.
That's when approaching large numbers of prospects becomes critical. Your warm list is what sets you apart from everyone else in the business. It is your edge for success. Without it, your approach to network marketing is not terribly different from standing on a street corner selling newspapers.
Network Marketing: Creating A Large Warm List
The larger your warm list, the more solidly you will establish your network marketing business. One of the first steps for new affiliates is to begin making a large list of people they know personally. Once you are well on your way with your list, select your top twenty-five people, those with whom you would most enjoy being in business. Everyone has a warm list, but most don't know how to identify and record the names. A large list is shocking, but even more shocking is our inability to recall a mere 10 percent of those acquaintances without a specific triggering device.
A triggering device is any list of people, places, occupations, directories, or things that allow us to recall people from our past. At the time I first became involved in network marketing, we each had a very extensive warm list and have since recruited others whose list far exceeded ours. We used telephone directories, old high school yearbooks, and the internet to help us create lists of several hundred people.
