An affiliate program clearly offers products for you to promote, you’ll are usually restricted to the merchant’s goods only. Nonetheless some affiliate programs employ fewer affiliates which ultimately mean less opposition and competition in the market place. Furthermore you will have greater chances of succeeding if the market is not already flooded with the product. If over the course of your time you are not satisfied with that affiliate for any reason you can jump ship and join another program. In fact most affiliates are a part of several different programs; it’s rare to only be a part of one program. Almost all affiliate programs are free to be a part of; they won’t charge you for membership since after all you are the one who be helping the merchant. You are the one doing all the heavy lifting as far as marketing and being a spokesman and ultimately are the one who has to be paid! Now, there are fairly decent affiliate programs as well as bad affiliate programs. The next question is how do we avoid them? In short watch out for the warning signs.
Some of the warning signs but not all of them are:
• Offering a product that is of low-grade to mediocre in quality. This may result in you losing the respect and credibility amongst your downline prospects and customers for leading them to an inferior product.
• Offering a product that is complicated to sell.
• The affiliate program that has a record of failing to compensate its affiliates.
• The affiliate program has a very troubling and well known history of dealing with its clients and partners. Nothing is more maddening than being affiliated with something but being deprived of the fruits of your labor.
• The affiliate program is being run by a figure head; nobody really has a handle on who is running the company.
If you are considering representing an affiliate program with any of these traits I suggest you do your homework and keep looking. Rarely do companies with this type of track record make a miraculous turn for the better. Now, how do you determine the right affiliate program?
In essence the affiliate program you may want to reflect on should have the majority if not all of the subsequent characteristics:
• They are one of the first to jump on the next “IN” thing, in my opinion this is paramount in regards to any affiliate. I will not making any money if I cannot pre-sell any merchandise.
•A high commission compensation plan. This is only secondary to the factor above. This shouldn’t be a problem though; as most affiliate programs offer 50% commission per sale these days.
• A program that is well known for its credibility. Would rather join forces with some fly by night flash in the pan, or join up with a proven winner?
• A program that has an excellent customer service/relations department, in affiliate marketing getting refund requests can suck. You thought you scored a sale but if a refund request is put in, you just lost the commission to that sale. Having a great customer service department can sometimes take the sting out of losing the sale.
So after reading this you should have a better understanding of the importance of finding and working an affiliate marketing program that is best for you. These are just really simple examples in regard to whole picture of affiliate marketing. Prior to record job lost and the huge economic downturn we face here in this country nobody was interested in a home business opportunity. Now everybody is online searching for new and inventive ways to make ends meet. It’s good to understand this so you can start thinking from that point of view.
