Japan’s Zen philosophy has influenced how people should think in different aspects. Zen has been applied to paintings, architecture and even skyscrapers. Now, it has also been proven to do wondrous ways in losing weight. If you think that you have to be in Japan to shed off some fats through Zen, good news – you need not go to Japan and have supervision with a master. You only have to modify your way of thinking in terms of diet and exercise. The Zen way also has similarities with yet another dieting technique called the holistic approach. Both of them emphasize the importance of satisfaction, inner peace and contentment and simplicity in life to achieve one’s ideal weight. Here are some of its ideals.
Some tips in a successful Zen dieting technique:
Feel good about yourself. We often hear that our brain is the most powerful organ in our body. True. Thinking positively will also yield positive things to your body. Dieting is a laborious task and it should be accompanied with the right motivation to get you throughout the entire diet program. Without the will and determination, the effects of dieting will not be sustainable. Also, having a positive outlook will energize your body and make it burn more calories. To keep you motivated, you may want to keep an old picture when you are still fat. Try comparing the old and the new picture and it surely would make you smile!
Have fun with what you are doing.
Losing weight should not be taken in its literal, outward results. It should also affect one’s inner values and help build confidence. Aerobic exercises should also be enjoyable. In doing exercises, do not punish yourself. Perform only those moves and frequency that your body can take. Jog, walk, or go to the gym with a group of friends. Your laughter, stories and experiences will make the experience worth keeping and remembering.
Go for nutrition and wellness.
In the Zen approach, keeping yourself healthy and fit means you have to avoid foods with complex fat and carbohydrate structure. It means that you have to let go of foods that are not directly produced from its natural environment. Eat lots of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. Drink lots of water and fruit juices. Avoid drinks that contain a lot of empty sugars. Lastly, only eat what your body can consume.
Listen to what your body needs.
Do not let your self be deprived of simple luxuries like sleep, food and water. Do not get starved. Eat when hungry. Do something when tired and bored. In eating, grab fibrous fruits, some crackers or cottage cheese. Depriving ourselves from food that we desire will only increase our appetite and craving the next time we see them. Satisfy your taste buds but do not overdo the act.
Learn to undo bad health habits and move on.
Zen is all about possessing positive energies in our body. Let go of smoking, drinking too much soda or beer. Unlearn the habit of inactivity and embrace a very active and dynamic lifestyle filled with healthy outdoor aerobic activities with friends and loved ones. Avoid places that tempt you to eat unhealthy foods and commit bad health habits. The effects may not be that immediate but for sure they have long term effects to your health and overall personality.
