Referral Primer

I have been driven to write this as a consequence of my continual discovery of meeting people who don't know how to get referrals for their online business. You know the story, many say "No Referring Required", when in fact it is an essential element in reaching any significant level of success financial or otherwise.

Most business networks rely on forming a system of referrals in order to drive the business forward. Where do we find or solve the question of "getting" these for our online opportunity.

There are two kinds of people; people we know and people we don't know. Who do you think are the easiest to work with?

Thinking about how those two types will respond to your "approach", would you immediately ask someone you don't know to look at a program and have them jump in straight away?

What you have in all situations is a matter of building a relationship and those 2 types of people involve different approaches with subtleties regarding how you - show, ask, invite but the result and outcome you "want" is the same.

Your aim is to identify "their" need and whether they fit the profile of what you have to offer. This a qualification and filtering process and you should be looking at all aspects of how they interact WITH you. You are NOT a sales person but an interviewer using this as a means to find out the information you require to determine their wants and desires and how amenable they are to receiving your information.

Once you have made the initial contact and found what you need to know then you can make the "close" to invite them to see your opportunity. Simply ask them "I'd like to show you something I have been working for a little while and would like you to take a look". By now you should have no doubt that they will say "YES" (the magic word) and from here - they are in business.

Where do I go looking for leads?

Possible hunting grounds, Skype, Forums, Social Networks (facebook, myspace, youtube etc, etc.) Connect with people and chat using the methods of finding people "socially" BEFORE blasting links into their faces and chat box. People want to know you before thay have any interest in your business and will only join in the knowledge that you are the kind of person they can trust, rely on and aspire to.

Create your profile on sites as mentioned above and include your relevant background information about your work and experience in life to let people see what kind of things excite and interest you, those are the hooks that will ATTRACT others to you. Like attracts like, opposites attract and personality types also come into the mix too with regards to how you approach different situations.

In addition you may also want to create an introductory blog covering your life and business history too so that you can let people see who they are dealing with, it's like a CV of marketing but not for promoting links to your business. You create another blog that will DO that or an alternative place to feature your primary and ancilliary businesses.

This is an outline to beginning the road to developing your online business and implementing will take time to fully appreciate the importance of all the steps involved.

My future posts will cover other areas such as domain integration, personal branding, safelist marketing and traffic exchange promotion.

How you approach the business of finding referrals will impact on your success level and an intimate knowledge of the various scenarios will have positive results when you work on the mechanics of doing so.
Become proficient in doing this and your business WILL grow at lightning speed.

To your success.

Kenneth McPherson 2011

Great overview on how to get busy right away whether or not you have money to spend. If the average new person is struggling for "leads" all they have to do is focus on what you've outlined here.
