Memoirs of a Property Manager Chapter 2
Well besides all the downs and a few ups of being a leasing consultant, I really enjoyed my job. There was such a variety of people coming in, it really kept you on your toes. Some people can be so particular about renting an apartment. They look in every nook and crany for any problems.
Sometimes when an apartment was vacant for a little while, it would get a little dusty. Also they could accumulate a bug or two. Trick is when you enter the apartment and look around with the prospect, you see a little creature crawling around, you very casually put your foot on top of it and lead your prospect into another area. Problem solved.
Some prospects look at an apartment like they are buying it. Oh, there's a nick on the fridge, I want a new one, (yeah, right), oh, there are some scratches on the counter, etc. etc. Now these are items that we will document on your move in sheet. Sorry, I say to myself, you are not going to get all new stuff. Everything works and everything is clean and good to go. This is it.
Now this will lead me to a short story of a future resident, that was not too happy with the condition of her apartment. She told my manager that she wanted another apartment, because the one she was going into was unacceptable. My manager told her that there was nothing wrong with the apartment and that we did not have anything else available at this time. Well, she would not accept that answer. She got so upset that she started yelling at my manager. I just sat there and stared at the person and wondered what would happen next. The future resident started to scream and really get abnoxious with my manager. Well just to let you know, there is a panic button by our counter where we are sitting, and things got very tense, so I hit it. The cops were there in 2 minutes. The customer was really ready to jump the counter and smack my manager. Wow, What excitement. You sort of had to have been there to really appreciate it. Just another day in the life of a newbie leasing consultant.
Chapter 3 coming soon.
