I recently had the opportunity to write my own obituary for a class project. My initial thoughts when I was told that I had to do this were that it is crazy.
The assignment was to write your story as you would have it told once your life was over. But let’s face it; we don't want to think about that. However, being that this is the destiny of us all I decided that this project could be worthwhile plus I needed the grade.
Well the day came to present in class and we had to read our own obituary. Turns out this was one of the greatest things that I could have done for myself. It has given me insight of what I plan to have done once it is all said and done.
The project truly has allowed me to review where I am in life and what I need to do to continue on the path to making my dreams (the ones that were outlined in my obituary) come true. I know have a plan, something to work on and I will not be stopped.
I'm currently talking to members of my family and will have them to do the same. It is a very empowering project if you take it seriously. I invite you to challenge yourself and get passed the death in writing your obituary. Help yourself to start at the end and develop a plan to take you there.
